Apple
Apple is one of the most recognized electronic icons in the world. Steve Wozniak, Ronald Wayne and the late Steve Jobs established it in 1976. Under the Apple brand, there are many appliances that have been made popular such as the iPhone, iPad, iPods and the Mac computer. In their financial year ending September 2011, revenues increased by $43 billion (66%) from the previous year (Apple Inc.-Annual Report, 2011, pg30-31). The Apple website is quite attractive based on how they make their products stand out, the use of the images, colour management, video usage and so on. Their site is definitely marketed to a range of people and is quite persuasive to ensure the encouragement of their audience to purchase Apple products.
Colour Usage/ Management
The Apple Inc. website has a background of plain white. The usage of this color gives seriousness to it (Wysocki, 2004). Although at first glance it resembles a university’s assessment, the over usage of the white background helps the audience’s eye catch on to their products. Because white contrasts with basically any other colour, it makes everything else pop. It is simple and makes this site look sophistocated and professional. The brightness of this website is quite inviting, and although it is simple, it comes off as technological which emulates their products. The usage of a grey background is also used which has the same effect. But up against the brightly coloured advertisement box for Music, Movies and Games, it has more of a warmer feel than the harsh contrast of with the white background. This section brings abit more youthfulness to the website.
The tool bar is something that stands out a lot because of the backward colour usage compared to the rest of the site. It uses a grey background with white lettering. Although these are both muted colours, and is positioned at the top of the screen, it is very noticeable.
Use of Images
This site is aimed at technological literate people who use Apple products on a daily basis. The largest image seen is one of their latest products, the iPad mini. The picture of someone’s hand holding this product suggests that it is convenient for everyday usage. Also the screen shows the functions it holds and therefore used as a form of attraction and easy advertising. A lot of the other images suggest similar things and show ways they can help. Such as the gift-wrapping and free engraving. Letting people put their own personal touches to make the shopper feel special. The picture of the Apple Specialist shows them smiling and happy. So when looking at the overall site, it makes the viewer think that when you need assistance with one of their products, one will always be treated with good customer service.
Other images show the different sizes of product available for purchase. These images suggest that they are portable and a consumer is able to use Apple products away and from home. This is aimed at monochromic people. Professional people with hectic daily routines and where time management is very important.
